There are a number of temporary and permanent visa options for Australian businesses seeking to employ and sponsor overseas employees.

• 457 visa: a temporary solution for positions that need to be filled for up to four years
• Employer Nomination Scheme (ENS): a permanent solution for businesses throughout Australia
• Regional Sponsored Migration Scheme (RSMS): a good option for businesses operating in regional Australia.  Like the above mentioned ENS a permanent solution but enabling businesses to source from a broader range of employees
  

Sponsoring overseas employees is not necessarily a risky business for either employees or employers. It is also by no means only attractive for medium to large sized companies. It is foremost an incentive for small businesses, which are operating in regional Australia and are hit hardest by skill shortages.
