Skills assessing authorities warn to expect delays

Several skills assessing authorities, such as ‘Trades Recognition Australia, ‘Vetassess’ , or the ‘Australian Computer Society’ have warned to expect delays when applying for a skills assessment, due to a significant increase in applications received. Some skills assessment authorities have seen an 80 % increase in applications compared to last year and are therefore unable to meet their own published processing guidelines.

This affects most candidates requiring a skill assessment for a trade or professional occupation, planning to apply for a skilled visa (189, 190, 489) or employer sponsored visa (TSS, 186).

Vetassess has recently announced to pause certain occupations due to the backlog in those occupations they have accumulated. Ongoing recruitment drives to hire more staff are yet to have an effect on processing times.
